Getting to know Luke

How long have you been practising law, and how long have you been with Fee Langstone?

I have only recently graduated with an LLB/BA, where I studied at Victoria University of

Wellington. I joined Fee Langstone in June of this year, and it’s hard to believe I’ve almost

been here for six months. I am hoping to be admitted as a barrister and solicitor of the High

Court of New Zealand in December of this year.

If you weren’t a lawyer, what do you think you’d be doing?

I really liked reading Sherlock Holmes books when I was younger, so a detective was on the

cards. Eight-year-old me would have also suggested a train driver or an astronaut. In the cold

light of my early 20’s the goal would be to tour the world playing Ultimate Frisbee in as

many countries as possible. Nothing like chasing 175g of regulation plastic while also being

able to meet new people and see the world.

What do you think sets Fee Langstone apart from other firms?

The open and welcoming culture made the transition from study to employment a breeze. The

open office environment makes everyone very accessible and everyone is willing to offer

advice. While there is still a lot for me to learn, I feel like I am in the best place to develop

the skills that will be vital as I progress in the legal profession.

What attracted you to work at an Insurance law firm?

I was looking to gain experience in private practice out of university and had taken a course

covering insurance law issues in my final summer that sparked an interest in insurance law.

Over the last few months I have found the diversity in work really engaging, and it has

exposed me to a range of aspects of the civil litigation process. But really it has been the

occasional puppy visits that has kept me coming back.

What are three things still left on your bucket list?

1. Ride a train around the Swiss Alps

2. Prepare the perfect portion of pasta for a meal; not too much and not too little.
