Five quick-fire questions with Shikha Kishun, Regulatory Team

We’re excited to further strengthen our regulatory team with the arrival of Shikha Kishun. Shikha brings a wealth of experience in the regulatory space, having worked with a range of business and senior leaders on various risk and compliance matters including Fair Insurance Code compliance, privacy and confidentiality, risk, incident and complaints management, regulatory and compliance obligations. She has also acted as Deputy Privacy Officer in her previous role. We put Shikha straight under the spotlight to ask her five 'quick fire’ questions about all things regulatory.

1. What do you enjoy most about the regulatory work you do?

The industry is going through significant regulatory reforms and it’s exciting to be in the thick of navigating the changes and the challenges that come with that.

2. What is the most memorable piece of work you have been involved in?

In my previous role, I was involved in introducing new processes and policies and in turn contributing to the growth of the governance, risk and compliance team I was a part of. One memorable piece of work I recall is designing, building and rolling out a contracts register and end-to-end process for the business.

3. Why?

This required understanding the needs of the business, identifying opportunities and challenges, and working collaboratively with various stakeholders internally and externally to deliver meaningful assistance and support.

4. What’s your best piece of advice for clients?

It’s important to be flexible, proactive, and adaptable in a fast paced, and dynamic landscape.

5. Where do you see the regulatory landscape going in New Zealand in the next few years? i.e. what should people expect?

I think the pace of regulatory change will be constant over the next few years – climate related disclosures, the conduct regime, the Natural Hazards Act, and Insurance Contracts Bill are some of the key reforms currently underway and will remain front of mind for some time. Coupled with this, we can expect increased regulatory oversight and enforcement action by the regulator. The outcome of the election later in the year may also impact on the pace of some of the reforms.
