Get to know Greg

Greg Potter completed a Bachelor of Laws and Bachelor of Commerce majoring in Management at the University of Auckland. He gained commercial dispute resolution experience at a specialist litigation firm while completing the final six months of his degrees in 2019. He joined Fee Langstone in January 2020.

Greg is really enjoying discovering the ins and outs of insurance law and the insurance industry. He is interested in the way the industry is constantly developing to keep up with the rapidly progressing world, and likes the continual change in work that brings. To date, he has worked on cases involving professional indemnity, negligence, anti-competitive offences and contractual disputes.

“Fee Langstone has a partner to solicitor ratio which offers a fantastic opportunity to develop your legal skills by working with, and learning from, a number of industry-leading insurance lawyers. The firm really values professional development and offers a lot of support so that the goals and aspirations of each person can be achieved.”

As yet, Greg hasn’t had much chance to travel the world but his dream trip would start with a live concert performance by his favourite band, the Red Hot Chili Peppers, followed by a meal cooked by Gordon Ramsay, and end with a visit to the Wizarding World of Harry Potter in both the USA and London. (Greg grew up watching the films and his surname has nothing to do with it, honest.)

Greg is an accomplished cyclist. He started in track cycling at intermediate school, initially for fun, but soon entered competitions. He represented Auckland on a national and international level in the under 17 category, the under 19, and then in the Elite category. In his final season Greg was invited into the New Zealand development programme, which involved training in Cambridge weekly. .

When he was accepted into law school, Greg decided something had to give. He would have to choose between being a professional sportsperson and having a career in law or commerce. He focussed his energies on study.

Greg plays hard as well as works hard. He still rides for fun and socialising and has recently taken up kayak fishing: a pastime that seems to involve pulling up sharks. His main desire is, however, to pull in a 20-pound snapper instead.

Having learned several instruments at school, Greg has a passion for music. Since leaving competitive cycling, he has evolved into a part-time contract DJ. He also produces music, including an EP under the SoundCloud profile name AsOne.
