Morgan Fee
Morgan is a vital part of the insurance liability team at Fee Langstone, recognised for her commercially pragmatic advice and her ability to expertly guide clients through complex litigation. She focusses on a broad range of civil disputes and indemnity work, with particular expertise in professional negligence and disciplinary matters, professional indemnity and general liability, directors and officers insurance, and Commerce Commission prosecutions.
Morgan graduated from Auckland University in 2015 with a conjoint degree in Law and Arts, and began her career as a barrister and solicitor at a boutique insurance litigation firm in Auckland, with a particular emphasis on professional indemnity.
In 2018, Morgan expanded her expertise in Melbourne as an Associate at one of Australia’s largest insurance litigation firms, specialising in financial lines (including Directors and Officers, financial markets, and professional indemnity claims), and also supporting the Property and Energy team with subrogated recoveries. She joined Fee Langstone in July 2020, during which time she has built a reputation for technical excellence and client-focused service. In 2025, Morgan was recognised by Australasian Lawyer Magazine and NZ Lawyer Magazine as one of Australia and New Zealand’s Future Legal Leaders.

Morgan regularly appears before courts and tribunals, and has appeared in the Court of Appeal, High Court, District Court, Legal Complaints Review Officer, and Lawyers Disciplinary Tribunal. Her published decisions include:
Acting as junior counsel in a leading Court of Appeal decision concerning solicitor’s negligence: Collins & May Law v Memelink [2017] NZCA 541.
Representing a defendant in the sentencing of Fair Trading Act offences prosecuted by the Commerce Commission: Commerce Commission v Allen Trading Company (1972) [2025] NZDC 17147.
Appearing as junior to King’s Counsel in successfully defending an application to strike out affirmative defences in connection with defamation proceedings: Cancian v Cain [2024] NZHC 106.
Successfully applying for security for costs in connection with a professional negligence claim against liquidators: Wenzhou Hongliang Trading Co Limited v Finnigan [2021] NZHC 824.
Succeeding in a defended application for particulars and costs in a substantial directors and officers claim against insurers: Taylor & Anor v IAG New Zealand Limited, CIV 2023-404-2701.
Successfully reviewing a Standards Committee’s decision to refer complaints of conflict of interest against a lawyer to the Disciplinary Tribunal: DG v [Area] Standards Committee [X] [2024] NZLCRO 162, resulting in a significant decision around the scope of legal services and trustees’ duties.

Completing secondments as Claims Counsel and Senior Technical Claims Specialist for two of New Zealand’s largest insurers, most recently in 2022.
Advising insurers on a number of significant class actions in New Zealand and Australia, including two issued in Victoria against one of New Zealand’s largest publicly-listed companies.
Successfully resolving proceedings against a prominent King’s Counsel in connection with one of New Zealand’s largest relationship property cases.
Acting as coverage counsel for insurers of one of the defendants in the Whakaari / White Island prosecution.
Successfully defending complaints brought against a criminal barrister by both a District Court Judge and a prominent prosecutor, resulting in no further action.
Advising insurers on complex US-based general liability claims, including class actions concerning water contamination in California with quantum estimated to exceed US$1bn, and a high-profile intellectual property dispute between two dairy manufacturers.
