Jacinda Kirtlan
Jacinda was admitted to the bar in 2011 after completing degrees in Law and Arts (History) at the University of Auckland.
Prior to joining Fee Langstone in 2025, Jacinda was a Senior Litigation and Advice Solicitor at WorkSafe New Zealand, where she advised on complex health and safety, regulatory enforcement and public law matters. Her work included advising on regulatory investigations, coronial inquiries and prosecuting matters arising from serious injuries and fatalities. Earlier in her career, Jacinda gained extensive criminal law experience as both a prosecutor and defence counsel.
Since joining Fee Langstone in February 2025, Jacinda's practice has focused on regulatory defence. She advises insurers and their insureds in relation to investigations, enforcement action and prosecutions brought by a range of regulators, including WorkSafe New Zealand (including Energy Safety), Maritime New Zealand, the Commerce Commission, the Ministry for Primary Industries and local and regional councils across New Zealand. She has represented insureds in complex regulatory prosecutions and coronial inquests, regularly appears in court, and has experience assisting insurers and their insureds to resolve disputes through alternative dispute resolution, including Environment Court mediation.
Jacinda combines her prosecution and defence experience to provide practical and effective advice to insurers and their insureds facing regulatory scrutiny. She has a strong focus on identifying and mitigating legal risk and helping clients achieve the best possible outcome. Many of the matters in which she acts arise from serious incidents and involve sensitive subject matter, significant scrutiny and legal processes that are often unfamiliar to those involved. Drawing on her experience in the criminal, regulatory and coronial jurisdictions, she helps clients navigate these challenges with clear advice, practical support and effective advocacy.
